After two years in the works, we're thrilled to say that the theatrical-cinematic experience "Imagine the Universe" is now live inside the Lowell Universe Theater at the Astronomy Discovery Center!

What happens in this unique show that is part live stage play and part immersive cinema? When a frustrated research assistant tries on an experimental A.I. “imagination-mining” headset, they get more than they bargained for in a zany time-traveling adventure through the Universe!

This show now plays every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evening, but on May 17th at 6pm, there will be a very special showing of “Imagine the Universe” to be followed by 7pm panel, presented by Big in Arizona Films. This panel will feature many of the cast and crew from the filmmaking team who created the hybrid cinema-live theater show.

Panel Topics:

  • Landing on the Red Planet: Building a small Mars set for the Big Screen

  • Large Format Filmmaking: Shooting with 8K+ cameras, anamorphic lenses, at 60 frames per second

  • Indigenous Authenticity: On the page, inside the animation, behind the camera

Come out to the Astronomy Discovery Center at Lowell Observatory on Saturday May 17th to celebrate the film production and learn about how we made this show!
